Explore Kitchen Cabinets in Tampa: The Lusso Aspen Oak Display

Posted by TOA's Blog Team on Jun 11th 2015

When you next visit Tile Outlets of America, we hope you'll explore kitchen cabinets in Tampa where you'll notice several installations that bring together floor tile, wall tile and kitchen and bath cabinets. They help illustrate how dreams can become reality... for a whole lot less!

In this article, we'll focus on the Lusso Aspen Oak display to discuss cabinet trends. We'll also explain what you can expect from a kitchen and bath cabinetry design project .

Cabinet Trends Captured in the Lusso Aspen Oak Display

For this cabinet display, we wanted to create something new, modern and minimalist. Although ideal for a kitchen, it's also perfect for an everyday lifestyle type of space for gathering family and friends to entertain. The Lusso Aspen door style is from the modern line of kitchen cabinets.

Note the 3" thick "floating shelves," shelves without cabinet doors hiding them to display dishes, cookbooks, server or bake ware.

  • One shelf goes across the entire installation
  • The other connects two cabinets

The end result is airy and less heavy; it personalizes the space, making it feel lived in and warm, while keeping the kitchen functional and easy to use.

The cabinet material is a textured laminate. The product is consistent in color and grain movement and creates a nice even directional flow that is reflected in the Carrara marble countertop and in the floor tile selection. It's durable and both easier to maintain and less costly than wood. The textured melamine looks great on its own or paired with high gloss acrylic cabinets. The textured melamine comes in many colors.

We selected Carrara marble for the countertop to bring grey into the design since grey will continue to be the hottest color in 2015; it's a wonderful neutral that works well with soft accent colors. It also works well with the high gloss white floor tile. Metallic finishes are an important design element - not just chrome, silver and polished nickel, but also oil rubbed bronze, brass, etc. (In the 3d rendering below, notice how important a design element the chrome appliances finishes are for the space.)

Tile Touches on the Walls and Floors

The Tampa store Lusso Aspen Oak installation features on the floor a white high gloss floor tile called Alpine White in a 32x32 format. The backsplash design features multi-hued glass mosaics with metallic finishes; the product is called Rio Silver Mosaic. Both are available via special order.

This backsplash area is ideal for specialty stone mosaics or upgraded subway tile in larger sizes and in different texture and colors. Repetitive patterns work well, too. We've noticed a move away from traditional geometric patterns toward elegant and repetitive motifs which means that you have many options for creating a design that's right for you.

Other important cabinetry details:

  • The black handles on the drawers are minimal and clean. Black is becoming very popular in kitchens. High gloss white on floor - neutrals.
  • On the doors, notice the tab pulls. These are very small and placed on top of the door for a clean canvas. This doesn't require much hardware.
  • Note two very large convenient drawers for storing pots, pans, and dishes.
  • Cabinet LED lighting to illuminate the details and workspace in your kitchen.

How a Kitchen and Bath Cabinetry Design Project Works

A concept board - such as what you see below - begins the design process. It visually brings together the major elements of the space - the finish and style of the appliances, the major surface selections for flooring, cabinetry and backsplash and knob styles.

As you can see below, the Lusso Aspen Oak cabinet door is a very important element of the overall design. It's a great starting point to build off of and make sure everything ties together - including the countertop and appliances and backsplash materials.

Next, it's important to carefully detail in the dimensions and specifications of the kitchen elements to make sure the cabinets fit and work.

>> Bring photos, paint swatches, design elements to integrate. And be sure to download and complete the Tile Outlets Cabinet Planner design guide.

Here's why the dimensions are so critical. That information will form the basis for detailed elevations and layouts which include your appliances so you can better envision how the cabinets look and so your cabinets can be installed correctly.

Once you've agreed on the final layout, you can order cabinets and tile, and start to get ready for your kitchen installation.

Note: Be sure to order a month in advance. The Lusso line is custom made and it's best to allow a minimum of 3 weeks for production. This gives you time to organize details with your installation professionals.

In the case of the Lusso Aspen Oak kitchen cabinets in Tampa, this isn't a full kitchen installation. However, it gives you an idea for what's possible. When you explore the display in person, you'll notice that the modern, clean design doesn't mean that bells and whistles aren't there. Rather, they Just aren't obvious.
